It would be easy to say that Death Metal in Japan originates, just as it did in the West, from bands like Possessed and Death. While this statement is not incorrect, it would overlook the many groups that, both in the West and in Japan, contributed to the gradual evolution that ultimately led to the emergence of the genre in the form we know today. Although not strictly Death Metal, several bands played a crucial role in igniting a passion for heavy music among a new generation of young listeners. Groups such as Casbah, Airraid, Jurassic Jade, United, Loudness and 666 stimulated the imagination of many teenagers of the time, encouraging them to take their first steps within the musical environment that would later give rise to the Japanese Death Metal.
